A guide for best practices on setting up your search.

The suggestions below are designed to help you with the first step of the process - setting your filters using the "Filters" menu.

If your search yields too few results, first check how many filters you've applied. Remember that combining filters from different sections creates "AND" conditions, which can significantly narrow your results.
Aim to use only the minimum total number of filters necessary for your search.
Troubleshooting guide to expand your search pool:
| Field | Problem | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Specific Job Titles | Adding a current or past job title like “Senior Software Engineer” will restrict your candidate pool. | Consider inserting a shortened version of your job title or variations like (“Engineer” “Software” “Developer”) to significantly widen your matches. |
| Location | Some towns/cities may have smaller talent pools. | Use the radius search to expand to 50 miles, 100 miles, etc. |
| Skills | I am seeing profiles who don’t have the skills I need. | Add additional skills in the field, or use the “find similar skills” option. You can also pin skills to make them must-have requirements. This is generally not recommended, as the ranking should already surface top matches. |
| Years of Experience | A tight range of years of experience, like 3 to 5 years, will massively decrease your number of matches. | Widen the range. For example, 2 to 7 years may be more appropriate. |
| Fields of Study | Fields of study can be highly restrictive, especially when selecting just one. | Use the “Ask AI” feature to expand the fields of study, or remove them entirely if not necessary. |
To improve the ranking of your results, consider adding a few relevant terms in the “Skills / Keywords / Title” field. This can significantly boost search accuracy and help surface top matches more easily.
If your search pool is quite large - for example, over 5,000 profiles - try using the suggestions below to narrow it down and improve relevance.
| Field | Problem | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Job Titles | I am seeing profiles with irrelevant job titles. | |
| You can exclude specific job titles using the “Exclude” feature in your search. | ||
Alternatively, use Boolean operators in the Job Title field - for example:("Customer Success" AND "Senior Manager") - to fine-tune your results. |
| | Skills | I am seeing profiles who don’t have the skills I need. | Add additional skills in the field, or use the “find similar skills” option. You can also pin skills to make them must-have requirements. |
First, diagnose your search. Why the results aren’t matching? You may find a filter that is unintentionally pulling in those profiles, or a keyword that is surfacing them.
Once you have identified the issue, decide on the method to resolve:
Exclude Fields: In a variety of fields, you can explicitly exclude certain inputs. For example, you can exclude specific job titles, skills, or companies.
